Ballerina dog costume

by Leah
(Pekin, illinois)

To make this costume I bought cheap, disposable luffas from Walmart. I took off the string and had some webbing. From there I took craft wire and weaved it through the holes! Now we have the tutu. I then took a silk camisole and sewed the tutu to the bottom. Paired with pink booties and a tiara this makes a simple, fun and cheap costume!

Hi Leah,
Thank you for this wonderful dog costume idea. I was wondering, however, how you attached the tutu to the dog - does the wire have a gap so you can fit it over the dog? Or does it have a loop that you have the dog step into? Or do you use ribbon to tie it on? Also, what color is the camisole - white? or pink to match the dog booties?

It sounds like you are thinking of a store-bought tiara - however, people could easily make their own by taking a strip of curved plastic from a yogurt or margarine container and covering it with fabric and glitter. Just be sure that it fits your dog comfortably and does not pinch. You could also add a length of pants elastic between the ends to strap the tiara on - again, keep it comfortable. As always, with any dog costume, if your dog really does not like it, take it off as soon as you can...
