Emma, a tri-color Cavalier

by Jan
(Chicago)

This is another of our three Cavaliers, Emma, a tri-color who was rescued from the same mill about a year later than Keira. She has been with us for almost a year and a half. She has a lot of fear issues and is still very untrusting of people. She has come a long way since she came to live with us but will probably always be fearful to a degree.

Mama Blue, a true Cavalier

Look at that cute face!

Look at that cute face!

We are permanent foster parents to a Blenheim, Mama Blue (Blue for short), about eight years old. Like our other two dogs, she also was a breeder for a puppy mill. Greater Chicago Cavalier Rescue was unable to find an adoptive family for her because she has syringomyelia, a neurological disease.

When she first came to us in December 2008, she must have had a litter recently because she took over the toy basket with all the stuffed toys. She cleaned them and pulled them to her belly to nurse. She guarded them from the other two dogs just as she probably did at the mill. After about 2 weeks, she decided they were just toys and started tossing them around and having fun.

She is such a sweet little girl and we have been honored to be her caregivers. She is on medication and doing very well. Runs like the wind and loves to chase the frisbee. She just won't give it back once she gets it!

Keira, a rescued Cavalier

Watch out for that chlorine!

Watch out for that chlorine!

Here's a photo of Keira - she's a real ham.  We adopted her from Greater Chicago Cavalier Rescue (the rescue I volunteer for) in February 2008.

She was rescued from an Iowa puppy mill at about 4 years old.  She has been my little angel ever since.  She loves playing in the pool and also loves playing soccer.  She has the true loving Cavalier spirit.  That same picture was put into GCCR's 2010 calendar, Miss June.

Editor's note: Jan also has two other female Cavaliers that were rescued from puppy mills. We think it's awesome and no doubt the ladies are delighted to be running free (or swimming).

Here are their stories:
