Comet's Blog - July to December 2008
November 15, 2008 Well, I'm a more traveled dog this month. One new place we went to around here is a park with a very very big tree. The branches are so big and heavy they go down to the ground! Best of all in my opinion is that there are lots of squirrels to chase.
My Mama tried again with another Halloween costume. She said I was now a mountain rescue dog by tying a barrel under my chin. It was better than trying on the hot dog costume or the Hawaiian shirt...We hardly ever go anywhere in the car and sometimes I get left behind, even though I try soooo hard to tell the humans I want to go too. They always say, "It's too hot" if the sun is shining. They usually come back with yummy groceries, so I guess that's ok. It did get very cold for about a week so I went shopping with them then. Now it's back to being warm, rainy and humid - strange. One day the humans were taking me around in the bicycle trailer and we went on a ferry (they call it the Water Taxi) and took a tour of the Jacksonville waterfront. The captain really liked me and my wagon. I didn't get seasick this time because the water was nice and smooth. Speaking of getting sick - some dogs are real pigs - so make sure they can't get into all that food you humans make for Turkey Day. Happy times to you all till next time! - Comet
October 15, 2008 The biggest thing that happened is that I now have my own cart! Instead of just doing circles around the neighborhood we live in, the humans can now take me a lot further. They didn't have time to figure out how to make one so I finally have something they bought...
The first day we got the dog bicycle trailer, we went across a big bridge after dinner and waited at a park by the river. Pretty soon, lots of other people on bicycles showed up. Then they all started moving and we were part of a whole group of people riding along the river and then through the streets of downtown Jacksonville. I was the only dog in a trailer and heard all kinds of comments. My favorite was, "That's the chillest dog!" One guy sitting on a bench started laughing so hard he almost fell off and I noticed lots of finger pointing and smiles.
The next day, we went across another big bridge to a park where there were lots of dogs wearing costumes. My human mama had tried to make me a hot dog costume but it came out too small so I didn't have to wear it, thank goodness! She also worked on a Hawaiian shirt but wasn't satisfied... I think people would've paid more attention to me in the trailer than what I was wearing, anyway.
Well, I don't have anything else to report. If you're having a tough day, just look at this picture of me riding around and smile!! Comet
September 15, 2008 They wouldn't let me in to the Doggy Days event, which was at a local museum nicknamed "The MOSH." You had to be a service dog or part of a rescue organization. (I'm a rescue but not that organized...) I heard there was one dog there that works for his owner sniffing out termites! The last time we went to the salty water, the Two Leggers tied me up to a backpack and put their towels on top. They said the water was too rough for me. I got tired of watching them having fun so I started trotting into the water. That got their attention but fast! We had a big storm with a lot of wind and three days of rain. Part of the chimney fell down - some of the bricks came shooting out of the fireplace! The river came over the concrete wall and I was able to go swimming in the next street over. The humans and I went wading through a lot of the streets. Luckily most of the houses are built up a few feet off the ground, including the one we're in, so we didn't get wet inside. My Bipeds found a lake near here where I can go swimming. It's a big relief for me because it's been so hot and humid. In the evenings we've seen a lot of fish jumping up out of the water. Some of them go really high and far. I haven't tried to chase them though. My mama has been combing me twice a day for fleas so I don't have to scratch. I get wet so much they can't use that special flea stuff on me. Sometimes I'm patient, but if she accidentally pulls on my fur, I get up and try to hide from her or go to my papa to protect me. It never works... Well, time for me to get my morning cat scanning expedition in. I'll be yakking at ya again soon! - Comet August 15, 2008 Hello again! We're still getting a lot of rain some days but not so much of the loud booming noises. It's usually humid outside so I don't feel like going fast a lot of times. Sometimes in the mornings I get to race my mama in the park - she rides her bicycle real fast, then I try to catch her and bite at her feet. She doesn't like that part but that doesn't stop me trying! A couple of times we went to that place that has lots of water that's salty and has waves that come at you. I wanted to be further out where the humans were swimming but my legs are too short. So I stood and watched or else chased other dogs that were running nearby. It was fun but I didn't like the shower they made me take afterwards. A few times I went in the car but most of the time the humans leave me home when they go somewhere. I am soooo happy to see either of them when they get back! The house we are in has windows that are my height so I can see when someone is walking by or coming home. That gives me some good barking practice. Of course, cats are my biggest priority and there are lots of them to look for when we go for walks. I've got it all mapped out in my mind where they are and I try to pull my humans down the streets where I know I might see a cat! Well, we are going to go to something called Doggy Days this weekend. Will tell you all about it next go round. Happy wags from Sir Barks-A-Lot (well not really a lot, just very loud)! July 15, 2008 I have my own backyard with squirrels again! We've moved into a house in a place called Jacksonville, Florida. It's very humid and quite hot so I don't have as much energy. We drove and drove for many days to get here. I got kinda depressed because I wasn't getting the kind of walks I'm used to. But I did get to smell lots of different things when we stopped. It rains hard here. On our first walk in the neighborhood it started to thunder and then it really poured. I was a very wet dog by the time we got back. The Two Leggers thought it was fun; I didn't. It rains just about every day like that, usually in the afternoon or evening. The rain was warm, something I'm not used to since in most places in California it rains in the winter, not summer. My human papa just started leaving us all day. He gets all dressed up to go to something called work. I really missed him yesterday. The Bipeds tell me I'm lucky my human mama will be home to hang out with most of the day. She spends a lot of time looking at the computer and moving her fingers or reading books instead of playing with me. I guess it's better than being here all by myself though. That's it for this month. We're supposed to be going exploring places on the weekends so I'll tell you more next time. Till then - happy summer to you northerners! - Comet
