Dog Blog July through December 2010

Ocotober 15, 2010

Well I've had a busy time - hiked up to two mountain peaks, went exploring for rocks in a couple of desert places, had some walks above town, and also met the rest of the family. They liked me right away. Everyone thinks it's so cute that I like to dive under the covers next to my new Mommy when I get cold at night!

She has been making clothes for me - yuck! She crocheted a sweater, knitted another and is working on a raincoat. The Tall Ones are also working on a bicycle basket for me and a safety harness.

We have been getting together with another dog Mommy whose dog, Hope, has something wrong with her legs. My Tall Ones are trying to help by building her a wheelchair. She likes to follow me around when she has her wheels on.

Well, that's what I've been up to. Keep trotting along with your eyes open - if your life is anything like mine, there'll be some good surprises along the way! x o x o Pebble

Chiweenie on a hike September 15, 2010

Hello, hello, hello everybody! I am so excited to have my own blog! Of course, I'm sorry I am not sharing this with Comet - I only knew him briefly and was scared of him and snarly at first, but he didn't take offense - he was okay for a big dog.

My new Tall Ones took me away from my old Mommy in a weird little wagon pulled by a bicycle. I was not happy about that and I let them know I would be a force to be reckoned with. I kept it up when they got home and fiercely guarded my bed and toys. They weren't impressed and just told me to cut it out so I stopped pretty quickly.

The day after I arrived, Comet and I rode in the strange trailer into the mountains and then I ran and ran all over among trees over sand, plants and rocks. It was fabulous! I didn't want to get in the creek though even though it was nice to get some cool water to drink.

Some Humans came to visit and make music. They brought another dog. We played tag in the backyard and barked a lot. Comet barked too but didn't run after us. He did not feel good the next day so I left him alone. The next morning the Tall Ones dug a hole and put Comet in it. They put dirt on top and then planted some roses. I didn't see him after that.

We had another long hike in a place where there was sagebrush and only a few trees. A very big bird came and watched me for a while. The Tall Ones said the bird was thinking about eating me! We also saw some big animals called horses that live in that wild place.

Chihuahua mix riding in ATV Another day we took a long trip with some other people to a place that was nothing but sand. They called it a dry lake bed. We rode around on things called ATVs.

I had fun running on the sand between the noisy machines but got thirsty a lot. The Tall Ones made sure I didn't get too hot.

I am getting used to them. They like to play with me and talk to me and sometimes take me for long walks. They are home most of the time.
They changed what I eat - no more kibble or canned food. Instead I eat cooked chicken, liver or hamburger and get raw veggies and some brown rice or oats. I also get fruit for treats or tiny bits of cheese and extra vitamins. I have lost some weight and they say I look better. I am much less itchy.

Their backyard is fun - I like to chase the birds and go sniffing all over. Sometimes I chase my new Mommy around. I complain when she leaves to go somewhere, unless she gives me a bone to chew on, and then I pretend not to care. I don't like being left in the car by myself either. My new Daddy's quilt is preferable to sleeping in my dog bed. When it gets cold in the morning, I crawl in under the covers.

Well, thanks for letting me tell you about my new life. Keep trotting along with your tail high and I'll do the same! Pebble

July 15 through August 15, 2010

Yikes, where's the summer gone? July was so busy I couldn't get my Mama to type anything, and there's barely time for a few lines now.

We did three interesting outings. One was a mega-hike up a peak and back. The Two Leggers' younger daughter and friend were part of that one, and everyone went on about the wildflower "gardens" that we kept running into.

Then the other daughter came to visit with her boyfriend and we all bicycled over to the river.

Last week, the Humans and I went up one of the local canyon roads into the mountains - the Bipeds used their electric bikes to pull me in the trailer part way. We made it up far enough to watch a thunderstorm rain on the town below without getting wet.

Another big event occurred yesterday; Pebble came to stay. Her family was having a moving sale (they called her Pebbles) and they couldn't take her with them. She is a Chihuaha/Dachshund mix and four years old.

I could tell she was scared of me and the Two Leggers but she is getting used to us. She didn't cry last night or bark to wake anyone up.

This morning we took a walk together and she was sniffing right next to the same spots as me, and she didn't get snarly at all. Maybe we'll get to be friends. Maybe she'll start her own blog... Till next month! Comet
