Dear lil Karma

by Rose
(Hazelton, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia)

Hi, I would just like to tell you a little story about my Karma, a 10 month old registered Yorkshire Terrier. She was healthy as can be. 2 weeks ago I got a phone call saying my nephew had an accident at work and was not expected to pull through. So I flew out the door for the hospital. When I returned home the garbage was all over the house; coffee grounds, and just garbage.

That night she threw up; I just thought it was from the garbage, but next day by noon she was throwing up every ten minutes.

I called the vet. They couldn't see her until 10:30 the next day. By supper time she had loose stools and by midnight it had small amounts of blood.

So I called an out of town vet and he said he would see her at 8. I fell asleep and when I woke up at 6 it looked like a murder scene. So much blood!

I wrapped her in a blanket and left for the vet; it took 40 min to get there. I told him the story of the garbage and the coffee grounds.

He insisted it was parvo, I said it wasn't.

I knew my dog - she was with me 24/7, but he insisted so he did the test, which came back negative. Anyway he said leave her here and i will see what i can do. At supper time I called and they said she was alert and sitting up so they were going to unhook her. At 8 am I got a call - she didn't make it through the night.

Like I said I knew my dog and I'm sure it was the coffee grounds, so be very careful this season... I miss her so much it hurts my heart. I hope I saved just one puppy in memory of my dear little Karma...thank you for reading.

Editor's note: Rose, we are so sorry for your loss (your nephew too if he did not make it) and that the vets were not cooperative. You did your best to advocate for your dear little dog.
