Dog Bed Patterns Measurements
Here's a handy tip: Write down your dog bed patterns measurements as you make them!
Regardless of which shape dog bed you choose to make, the first thing you need to do is measure your dog to ensure a good fit.
Measurements are needed for three parts:
* The top and bottom
* The strip that connects the top and bottom
* The bolster or padded back rest around the top edge of the bed. |
| TOP AND BOTTOM – two identical pieces: |
Width Height of your dog from the floor to the top of the shoulders (withers)
Length Measure your dog from the tip of the nose to the back end of the tail, with the tail tucked against the dog’s behind. Your dog can be standing for this measurement, or be lying down, stretched out.
Final Top and Bottom measurements: Add 4 inches (10 cm) to the width and to the length to allow for seams and the bolster
Note that for the Circle Shape, the length and width will be exactly the same.
| CONNECTING STRIP - Connects top and bottom pieces: |
Width Height you want the bed to become plus 1 inch (2.5 cm) for the seams
Length Circumference* or perimeter** of the bed plus 1 inch (2.5 cm) for the seams
| BOLSTER – The padded tube around the top edge: |
Width 13 inches wide for a tube approx. 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter 16 inches wide for a tube approx. 5 inches (12.5 cm) in diameter 19 inches wide for a tube approx. 6 inches (15 cm) in diameter
Length Circumference* or perimeter** of the bed
*For the circumference, use the following formula: 3.14 x length **For the perimeter, add the two lengths and the two widths for the total sum
Now that you’ve determined the measurements, it’s time to take a look at the types of Materials you will need to make your dog bed.
