Dog Toys for Aggressive Chewers

Why are we giving you our pick of dog toys for aggressive chewers?

If you're like us, you don't always have time or energy to make a toy for your dog; sometimes it's just easier to buy one, especially when it comes to something tough enough to withstand heavy chewing.

We thought we'd do some scouting for you. Be sure to read our tips at the bottom of this page.

HERE ARE OUR TOP TEN FAVORITES

1. Classic Kong Chew and Treats Toy

This ever-popular toy is durable but is NOT meant for puppies who are teething!

During hot weather, consider plugging the small end with a wadded up plastic bag, then place it upside down and fill it stock or juice over a bowl or sink, and freeze it. Remove the plstic before serving...

This still has a reputation as the toughest dog toy, one that outlasts most chewers.

2. West Paw "Hurley"
The "Hurley" can be used as a fetch, chew and pool toy - it floats.

The bright colors make it easy to find.

It looks like it would be easy to throw as well. Some dog owners report it has been more durable than Kong toys they've tried with their chewers.

3. JW Tic Tac Ball
Although there were no reviews when we checked, this ball looks like a winner.

The openings in the ball can be stretched to stuff extra large treats inside.

Should be highly entertaining for dogs that like to chew on treats and rubber.

JW claims these are virtually indestructible

4. West Paw Zogoflex Bumi™ - Stretch Toy
Produced in Montana out of a unique non-toxic, recyclable, soft, flexible material that is guaranteed to last.

Fascinating chewing and playing fun for dogs with any type of jaw since it's floppy but also stretches and bounces back!

Comes in Small or Large Tangerine, Granny Smith, or Aqua colors.

5. Vibram Shooey Chewie - Rubber Sole
Here's a shoe sole without the top all ready for those jaws!

No worries about all the synthetic materials you might expose your dog to if you gave him or her a used shoe - this one's pure, clean rubber with a handy rope handle! Compare with Amazon

Yes, you could make your own out of old flip flops, but they're not usually solid rubber so could be chomped to bits quickly...

6. West Paw Zogoflex Zisc - Strong Flying Disc
Super tough dog toys also made out of Zogoflex (developed in Germany).

They're heavier than most frisbees but soft enough that they won't hurt a dog's mouth.

They can be easier for some dogs to pick up from the ground than a hard-sided frisbee. Look for the Zisc here in three colors.

7. Kong Ball with a Hole
Good reviews on Amazon.

Easy to clean and very bouncy according to those whose dogs have used them.

Suggested additions are to smear peanut butter or other spreads in the hole or add pureed foods and freeze.

This can keep your dog chewing away for a while!

8. West Paw Zogoflex Huck - Chewable/Floatable Balls
These weighted balls with grooves bounce in unexpected directions like a super ball to keep your dog hopping!

They do triple duty as chew and pool toys that float.

One reviewer claimed her dog's was tougher than a Kong ball she'd bought.

Available through Amazon as well.

9. JW Pet iSqueak Rubber Bone
Now you can say, "Give that dog a bone!"

This natural rubber bone with a squeaker lasts well with some dogs but not others.

It comes in three fade resistant colors

10. The Rock by Ruff Dawg

Made of solid, non-toxic rubber that is soft enough to be easy on the dog's mouth.

Use as a ball that bounces in unpredictable ways for great exercise and fun.

No reports on whether it qualifies as one of the dog toys for aggressive chewers, but we think it holds promise to give tough jaws a challenge.

SOME TIPS:

1. Remember that no chew toy is entirely indestructible. It's definitely trial and error for most dog owners.

2. Consider ordering a number of different dog toys for aggressive chewers from the same place at one time. Your dog is sure to like one of them. This may qualify you for FREE SHIPPING.

3. Keep packaging as intact as possible and save your electronic receipt. You may be able to return items that appear unused for a refund.

5. Sometimes a supplier discount NEGATES the free shipping. Read carefully and do the math to see which will be the better deal for you.
