Home Made Dog Toy:
T-TOY

by Joe
(Penfield NY )

I am going to make this home made dog toy for my dog boomer. I got the Idea from my friend and their dog loves it.

All you have to do is find an old holey t-shirt or any type of shirt and tie a knot in the middle of it! It's really easy and fun for all dogs to play with.

Favorite dog Toys:
Towel Toy

by Tara
(California)

My dog really loved this toy! I took an old towel and folded it in half. Then I twisted it and folded it in half again. Finally, you take the two loose ends and tie them in a strong knot. Then you can play fetch or tug-of-war with your dog!

Variation: Before you tie the end, slip a toy with a hole in it onto the towel. Then, knot both ends.

Dog Tug Toy:
Not Socks, But Jeans...

by Holly Walters
(Nicholasville, Kentucky)

You can cut an old pair of jeans into strips, depending on the size you want. I have big dogs, so I usually use a whole leg, seam to seam width wise, and cut into three even strips. Cut as long as you like your toy to be. I have made them two different ways:
One- Tie a knot in one end and braid it all the way to the other end, then tie a knot in that end and your done!.
Two- just tie it in a bunch of knots like 1 2 3 then 1 and 2 then 2 and 3 and so on. This one lasts longer if you have a destructive dog as I do!!

Make dog toys:
Shirt sleeve stuffy

by Cheryl
(WA state)

I made a couple of these for my dogs, and they love them.

Cut the sleeve off an old sweatshirt, then sew or knot the cuff end to hold the stuffing in. Stuff with safe stuffing of your choice (I used polyfil from an old pillow), knot or sew the other end. Voila.

I used a sewing machine, just 2 passes with a straight stitch at each end, then snipped the ends to give it a fringed edge. Took about 5 minutes to put one of these together. You could also use sleeves from other tough fabrics, like from old denim jeans/shirts, flannel shirts, etc. I just used some old shirts that were too ratty even for the goodwill.

My dogs love them. I did not use squeakers, because I've found that squeakers just encourage the dogs to shred the toys to get the squeaker out. If these do get torn up, they cost nothing, so it's no big deal. :)

Favorite dog toy:
Socky

by Zora
(South Africa)

My dogs love this toy because they can play tug of war with it, chase it around or jump up to try and grab it. Trust me your dog will love this toy.

It is a very fun, but inexpensive toy to make.

All I took was an old sock and tied a few knots in it - you can make yours long or short, but the longer the sock the more fun it is.

If it is a short sock just make one knot in the middle, but if it is a long sock make as many knots as possible with about a 10cm space in between each knot.

Editor's note: Thank you, Zora! This is a favorite idea for many dog owners to make since most people have discarded unmatched socks lying around (where does that other sock go anyhow?) If the dogs haven't shredded the Socky, you can simply put it in the washing machine when it gets too slimy and grubby. No need to dry it - your dogs most likely won't care - and it might be more stretchy when wet.

Jean Pillow/Cube

by Wesa
(Texas)

I took an old pair of jeans and made a pillow/tug out of them for my pit bull.

... all you do is cut the legs off the pants
... I used a section about 12 inches long
... turn the piece of pant leg inside out
... make a handle by folding a 2 inch wide strip in half sewn together
... sew the handle firmly onto one end of the pant leg
... sew this end of the pillow closed
... turn the leg right side out
... stuff with shreds of jean. makes it tough
... then sew the other end closed with a double or triple stitch.

Makes a good dog tug toy and is also tough enough to play with the bully dogs.
