Make Your Own Dog Coat

Make your own dog coat using a unique design template by Ruth Morrison of Tulsa, Oklahoma. See here for the original article that was run in Handwoven, a magazine for weavers, some years ago. The template is on page 4 of the .pdf file.

Although her instructions are for making a dog coat using weaving techniques, we believe this pattern can be adapted for any kind of fabric you want to use.

Here's how I made a raincoat for Comet with only a couple of modifications.

If you're unsure about how to adapt the pattern to your dog, use an old sheet (or cloth remnant) to practice with first.

When you have the size and shape you want, pin the practice piece to your fabric. Cut around it. Leave room for edging or seams if these are needed.

The best part of this design is that the velcro fasteners make it easy to put this coat on and off your dog.

Are you itching to try another project now that this one is done?
