I was thinking about the comment the man made and, sadly, some people don't spend the time and affection with their kids as they do their dogs. Dogs don't talk back and are easier to deal with.
Some friends of mine from a different country have mentioned that they have seen Americans treat their dogs better than their kids. I guess dogs have become the "sacred cow" here in the U.S. I know my chubby dog is pretty spoiled in our house.
