My Best Pal, Amy
a Jack Russell mix

by Anne
(Escondido, CA, USA)

Amy is a rescue. I adopted her 13 years ago when she was 3. She came to me with many problems such as biting and an inordinate fear of riding in the car. Over the years, she has been at my side although she has never willingly sat in my lap. We lead a quiet life. I work at home. When I have to leave the house to run errands, grocery shop or see the doctor, etc., she still goes wild. I have taken only one vacation since I have had her. She is very smart and learned a lot of really fun tricks and some commands. Despite numerous obedience classes, she never learned to walk on a leash. Now Amy is very old. She has little control over her bladder and "leaks" and wears a diaper. She is totally deaf and blind in one eye. Nevertheless, she still zooms around the house in the morning and loves to eat. I can't imagine what my life will be without my pal.

Editor's note: We think Amy was very lucky to be rescued by such a caring owner and to so far have had a wonderful 13 years with you. Maybe, in time, you will be able to make another dog just as happy.
