Make A Personalized Dog Leash
Out Of Yarn

Want to make a personalized dog leash? It’s easy once you learn how and so inexpensive to make!

  LEARN HOW TO:

  • Use a special braiding technique with a specific number of strands to form the rope
  • Choose the colors and yarn weight
  • Weave the colors in the correct order to create the striped pattern shown in the photo
  • Form the handle and attach the snap
  • Test the leash before public use (see Important Reminder below)

  • * Small Dog instructions are for a dog under 25 lbs. If your small dog is very strong, we recommend the Medium Dog instructions for dogs under 45 lbs [coming soon].

Once you’ve learned how to make one braided rope dog leash, you can make many more! Plus you can experiment with different colors and types of yarn, as well as other fibers such as hemp, jute, cotton, and nylon.

We also have instructions for a braided collar to match the leash. See Design Your Own Dog Collar Out of Yarn for more information.

    ORDERING INFORMATION

The collar and leash instructions can be purchased individually or as a set. To order, go to Dog Leashes & Collars Instructions and click on the item you want.

    IMPORTANT REMINDER:
Always keep strength and safety in mind. Before going out in public with your dog on the new leash, test your workmanship in a safe, enclosed area. If your dog tends to lunge or pull on a leash, try to get such behavior to occur by having someone walk by with a cat or another dog. Check the leash after the testing to make sure nothing is working loose.
