Running length of treadmill

by Lauri

Question:

How long is the running area of the treadmill? My dog has quite a long stride and I want to make sure it will accommodate him prior to purchasing the plans or building it. My building experience is limited, so I really don't want to try to modify it on my own.

Answer:

Hello Lauri,

Thanks for your question. I can understand why you would like this information before you invest in purchasing a set of our dog treadmill plans, the lumber, as well as the other materials.

The total carpet runner length comes to 54 inches. However, the actual supporting platform, which underlies the carpet belt in the system we built, is 48 inches long. This may not accommodate a dog like yours with a longer stride.

The longest commercial carpet belt design for a dog treadmill that I'm aware of has a 60-inch carpet length, which would effectively add 6 inches to our design if you were to modify it...

Unfortunately, we have not had the opportunity to build or test a treadmill with those larger dimensions, but I believe that extending our platform and frame has a good chance of working well. Perhaps you could find a local retiree in your area who would be willing to assist you with modifications.

Whatever you decide, we wish you and your dog all the best.
