missymouse's shih tzus

I have two adorable Shih Tzu doggies. My oldest one is almost three years old. Her name is Cricket. She is white with brown spots and a brown/black mask. I guess that is tri colored. She's my baby doll. The best dog I've ever known.

My other dog is solid black and her name is Tootie. She is not yet a year old. She is very smart and willfull - but soooo cute! Definitely not as mellow as Cricket though.

I have a hubby and two kids, but when I got the urge to have more kiddos, I got puppies instead. They're almost the same right? Don't get me wrong. My dogs are great and all, but they are still dogs. I don't totally treat them like humans or any thing. They don't wear clothes or get really pampered - just lots of love from me.

They are mostly indoors and are trained to use potty pads (mostly) because we live in washington state and it is wet outside a lot, so if I let them go outside too often, they get really messy. And I do take them to the groomers when I can afford it just for routine maintenance. If you have a dog who grows hair, you know what I mean. Anyway, they are a lot of fun and I'm lovin' almost every minute of it!

Next step is to build some doggie stairs so they won't keep me up all night wanting to get back up on the bed!! Wish me luck.

Jake the Dachshund's Story

by Deseree
(Canada)

Hello and my name is Jake. I am 11 months old and I was bought by my owner from Gleen Wester. One day a car drove up. It was my owner who wanted a puppy badly for Christmas. So she gave me to a little girl who was my new owner then she handed my owner my birth certificate and Gleen hugged me and said she will miss me. So I got in the car thinking "Who are these strangers?" We made it home and they gave me a warm bath. Oh that felt sooo good. Then we went to Petsmart and they bought me all that I would need. Next we went to a fast food place to eat. After that we went home and my owner played with me aaaaalllllll day long. Then we went for a long walk.

By the way, I'm not 11 months in this picture; I'm only 3 months old.

Deseree, thanks for having Jake write about the day that you got him. Love the great photo too! Jo

Team Chihuahua

by Bob Scott
(Ventura, CA)

Teri and the doggies in a motorhome

Teri and the doggies in a motorhome

The Taco Bell Chihuahua died a couple months ago. That's a sad thing :( He inspired my wife to buy one. Piccolino was a good dog, mean little sucker but a great companion! Our first Pic is gone....BUT....now we have 4 :)

Papa JoJo is about 8 y/o. We got him after losing our first Piccolino from a breeder in Apache Junction, AZ. Yep, he's a Desert Dawg! Beautiful short legged blonde with the Aura of an Angel. He was abused but granddaughters of the breeder, thus is why she sold him to us as he was her prize!

Mama Tia is about 7-1/2 y/o, black and white with a bandits face and quite a mischievous smile! She has long legs. Got her from a breeder in Nipomo, CA.

In a Get Rich scheme, we bred the 2 and Tia had 5 pups in Oct 03, Chandler, AZ. 3 immediately died from cleft palates. The remaining 2 were so cute, I had no intentions of giving them up...

Piccolino (#2) is FULL OF LIFE! The life of the party and loves all humans but will eat any dog that comes near :( He is white with gorgeous reddish markings.

Tuxedo, the BLACK DOG, is my spoiled brat. He came out at least 3 hours after the last pup during birth and Teri thought he was a blood clot! I immediately claimed him! Tia was so tired, she could not get up to pop his bag so I had to.

I almost lost Tux as he got Parvo at about 6 weeks. Struggling with $ anyway, I tried my best to care for him myself. I gave him IV's regularly and with God's Grace, he survived.

There's my family!

Tuxedo

Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds

by Shania
(Westmoreland, Pennsylvania, USA)

Lucy Playing with her homemade treat filled toy, although she did get distracted by the camera.

Lucy Playing with her homemade treat filled toy, although she did get distracted by the camera.

My 11 month old female Shih Tzu is named Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds (Lucy for short and I am sure most know where the name came from but I'll say anyway that it's a Beatles song.) She is VERY hyperactive. Snow is new to her and with all the cold, white stuff my town's been getting she just loves it!

I had brought her in this morning after she went to the bathroom and she ran in circles. My sister got annoyed with her so she yelled at Lucy to stop (I prefer not to yell at my pets but this is my sister so...) Little Lucy laid down on the floor and looked at us innocently; I laughed and went back to watching T.V. The moment I looked away she started running around again. Then snow- covered Lucy jumped onto me and started to lick my face.

I love her to death but I didn't like being covered in snow. So I put her in a separate room with her boyfriend and my other Shih Tzu, who's name is Pepper (from the Beatles song Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Band, but actually Sargent Pepper in a Tux is his full name). Those two just ran around endlessly, I never thought they'd ever be that hyper, since Pepper, being older, usually calms Lucy down. Today's been filled with Lucy ringing the bell on the door just to play in the snow. I suppose I should just get her a coat and boots and spend the day outside with her...

Dede my Outrageous Dog

Dede in a box.

Dede in a box.

I have a wonderful pekingese named Dede (pronounced Deedee). At first when we got her she was not a good sight to see. She was messy, and whined a lot. Now she is a lovable adorable dog. We recently had to put a dog down and Dede still remembers her when I talk about her. Dede makes us smile always and cheers anyone in a bad mood. Dede and I play a superhero game and she is the superpowered Dynamo Dede. I tell her the stories and she listens. I love my darling Dede. Dede also does hide and seek with me and every time we call her name she howls - we never taught her that. One of Dede's outrageous features is her tongue that always sticks out. This is 2009 and Dede is currently 6 but is turning 7 on August 21 2009. We are thinking about giving my amazing dog a party. Thank you for reading this story.I am 11 and I am a dog lover. :-)

Me, Myself, and Jessie

by Eden D.
(Edmond, OK)

Me, Sun Tanning

Me, Sun Tanning

Hi, my name is Jessie! I am a Double Dachshund - I have bright blue eyes, with starburst black. My owner, says I have ADHD, I don't know. I think I have a pretty good life with two other dogs in the house; the other dogs weren't born in the same litter as me. I'm 6 months, and both of them are 2 yrs. old. They were from the same litter and are German red Dachshunds. Their names are Ellanore & Ellizabeth. Ellanore and I have gotten to be great Buddies!

I live in the country - close to the City though. My backyard, is a hill, so when you're running across our backyard you are really running sideways. I love to fetch; mostly stuffed animals. Not Balls. I am VERY energetic.

I love my other sister Eden, she is human. She is my very own to call. Every time she comes home I get out of my sad and lonely mood, into a happy, wagging my tail mood! :) So far Eden has had Thanksgiving Break! She is in elementary school. She is 11 yrs. old. I have loved waking up with her not having to go to school. My momma is allergic to dogs (on the carpet) so I can't sleep with Eden, but sometime, when she gets wooden floors, maybe I will be able to.

So Life is Good, Gotta Go! Time for a nap!
- Jessie

Me and Cutie

by George

Cutie, a white pomeranian

Cutie, a white pomeranian

I got Cutie when i was about 6, and now I'm 8. Sometimes, Cutie has been really crazy, which drives me crazy. But I can calm her down by giving her a toy!

Cutie is a Pom, and I think she's very cute. I've been teaching her name since I got her, but, she just keeps forgetting! I think she has very powerful teeth because she broke almost every house she got... And even her bowl! Well, I'm going to go teach her name. Bye!!!

So like candy

by Suzanne
(Florida)

Hey it's not candy, but Candie ;)

Hey it's not candy, but Candie ;)

After the untimely death of my precious baby boy Papillion Mikail, I swore up down and backward that i never wanted another dog. Mikail died at a very young age of 4 after a mean spirited being poisoned him. After about 4 months my friend Alex decided enough was enough. I had become a recluse. So on Valentines Day he came to my house, gave me a huge hug, told me Happy Valentines Day and came inside. Everything normal. He took his coat off and placed it in a chair, and we sat down to play halo. After about 15 minutes he asked me to go get his coat. So off i went to retrieve it. When i went to go pick it up underneath was a little tiny pekingese puppy. I was livid, and Alex knew it. I stormed into the living room and said "I said i didn't want a dog. Take her and bring her back" He replied "Suzanne I don't know what you're talking about. I wouldn't do anything like that." I went back and got the puppy. He said "WHOA where did you find that" "Under your coat, ALEX!" His reply was " Sneaky little boogers dogs are. You wouldn't believe what i found in my pocket yesterday." After that i couldn't be angry. It was just too much.

The puppy woke up, looked up at me, jumped up and licked me half to death. I affectionately named her Candie. She's quickly become my best friend. And while she'll never be my Mikail, she's mended my broken heart. She loves to look at pictures of Mikail with me and even likes to go to the garden where i scattered Mikail's ashes. She dances and when i play my violin and attempts to mimic the music with her little voice. I still get a little down sometimes, but Candie won't let it go on for long :) Her loving eyes look at me and my heart melts. She's so playful. And when i mope around she pounces on me with her fuzzy little paws, and snorts until i'm laughing too hard to be sad. She's the best Valentines present i've ever received.

The incident that changed Dennis's life

by Sophia
(ESSEX)

Our dog Dennis is a little miniature Dachshund. We got him at 6 weeks (I think). Last year, we took him for a walk over to Tree Island behind Leigh Station. He didn't do anything to provoke this other dog, but it charged straight at him and grabbed him. Dennis's yelp was enough to bring anyone to tears. This dog had just appeared out of nowhere and bitten Dennis. It was a Staffordshire Bull terrier. The ghastly look on Dennis's face was horrible. It was when he started bleeding that my grandad started trying to pry Dennis out of this vicious dog's jaws. He hit the dog a couple of times, not to cause serious injuries, just to get him to let go. It was a terribly horrific scene.

The owner of the other dog came over in NO HURRY and told my grandad not to hit his dog. I see why he said that but what else were we supposed to do? At last the dog let go. It and the owner took off. Dennis was left bleeding badly. We went straight to the vets and they gave Dennis stitches and a drain, which is a long tube that goes in one injury, out the other. I thought we had lost our dear little Dennis but he has recovered well now. The only problem is he gets very nervous when near other dogs. Thank you for reading Dennis's story.

Editor's note: Sophia, thanks for telling us about this terrible incident. It happens quite a lot. How unfortunate that the owner did not take responsibility for his dog's actions - most likely he was afraid he would have to pay your vet bill, but that is no excuse IMHO...

Bad to the bone

by Ebony
(Liverpool, UK)

My dog Coco is a 1 year old Shih Tzu. One day we went to the park and on the way back we bought her a bone. When we got home we gave it to her. Then we tried to play fetch with her but she ran upstairs...

My cousins and I went to play in the bedroom. None of us had seen Coco for a hour. I put my hand under the bed to get some toys and pulled my hand out with blood all over it! It healed soon enough but it was all because of a bone...

We have a sliding door under the bed so we cellotaped it. A couple of days later I woke up and to my surprise I found Coco opening the door with her paw . I said, "You're bad to the bone aren't you?" and she replied, "Rrrrrrrrrufffff!!!" ha ha
