Omega Paw Tricky Treat Ball Review

| POSITIVES: - Nearly all dogs are very entertained by this tricky treat ball, and can spend twenty minutes or more emptying it out (if they haven't chewed it up).
- The bumps makes it easy for dogs to pick up and carry and its unpredictable roll adds to the fun.
- The rubber is relatively soft and injury is unlikely.
- Comes in several sizes: the large is 5.5 inches in diameter.
- It's easy to operate since the kibble or treat is stuffed in the same way it comes out.
- Some owners have had their pet's ball last for several years.
|
NEGATIVES:- A number of dogs have chewed this treat or kibble dispenser to bits soon after its arrival - ouch!
- There is no adjustment to the hole size
- The ball is hard to clean because it does not come apart.
Our impression:
Dog toys are never one-type-fits-all so we cannot guarantee that this would be the perfect item for your dog. However, unlike the Smarter Toys IQ Treat Ball Dog Toy which is made of hard plastic and can cut dog's jaws or give them internal injuries when it is chewed into pieces and/or swallowed, this Omega Paw treat dispensing ball appears much safer.
These are considered interactive dog toys, meaning that the owner is supposed to be involved when a dog is using one of them. Most of the problems with this toy appear to be lack of training or supervision by the owner, and frustration with cleaning it.

TIPS FOR TRAINING YOUR DOG TO USE THE TRICKY TREAT BALL:- Be present with your dog when you introduce this ball and for several times thereafter!
- Fill it all the way up with treats or kibble to make the food easy to shake loose, thereby giving your dog success right away.
- Demonstrate how to roll it to get treats out, if necessary.
- Enlarge the hole through careful cutting, or cover part of it by putting some duct tape across the inside. Cover any exposed sticky areas with another piece of tape.
- Remove the item immediately if the dog starts to chew on it with the command, "No chewing" or something to that effect. Reintroduce it after 10 seconds. Remove it every time the dog chews on it instead of rolling it.
CLEANING THE BALL- Pour warm or hot water (if you use suds use just a very little bit) in the hole
- Use some type of bottle brush that fits through the hole to swish around the insides.
- Rinse. Repeat the process if necessary.
- Stuff a cloth in it to absorb excess water; then air dry for a couple of days.
- If you only have one ball or live in a humid area, use a hair dryer to dry out the inside before you refill it. Do NOT leave it close to any heat source unattended.
