No need to buy dog biscuits at the store and wonder whether the next dog food recall will include the treats you just bought.

By making homemade dog biscuits with human grade items, you have better control over your dog's health.

Don't be surprised if your human family members snag a few too!


Comet really loved this natural dog biscuit recipe! Note: Recipe can be doubled.


  • Spinach: 1/2 10 oz package frozen chopped or 1/2 bunch fresh,  well rinsed
  • Egg: 1
  • Flour: 1 cup stone-ground whole wheat or rye
  • Cheese: 1 oz cup grated sharp Cheddar (about 1x1 inch cube)
  • Oil: 1/3 cup olive or other natural type

Make and Bake

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Thaw the frozen spinach or chop the fresh spinach.
  • Put in a mixing bowl with the egg, flour, cheese and oil.
  • Grease standard size or mini muffin tins with some oil.
  • Divide the mixture evenly and press into the tins.
  • Bake for about 10 minutes or until firm.
  • Let cool.

Spinachios keep quite well in the fridge. They may become hard after a couple of days. Comet liked them either way.

Cheesio Wafers

Here's another natural dog biscuit recipe that was Comet approved. These biscuits usually went fast!

This one requires chilling the dough in the refrigerator or freezer prior to baking, so allow at least 45 minutes for making them.

  • Cheese: 4 oz grated - your choice of type
  • Flour: 4 Tbsp (whole wheat, brown rice, rye or graham)
  • Oil: 5 Tbsp olive or other natural type
  • Spices: For example, oregano, sage, or dill to taste

Natural Dog Biscuit Recipe:
Make & Bake Cheesio Wafers

  • Mix the ingredients and then knead the dough together.
  • Divide the dough in two pieces and roll each section between your palms until you create logs about an inch (25 mm) in diameter.
  • Put the logs in the freezer for at least 20 minutes (or leave them in the fridge overnight).
  • When you are ready to bake the Cheesios, preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Cut the logs into slices about 1/4 inch (6 mm) thick.
  • Place the slices onto a greased cookie sheet or pizza pan.
  • Bake for 8 minutes and check.
  • The Cheesios should be golden in the middle and light brown around the edges when done.

Leftover wafers can be refrigerated or frozen.
